Redbike Multimedia launched a new campaign to promote the online swopping website www.swoppa.nl. Swoppa has been launched this year as a new swopping website, aimed at collectors in the Netherlads. It is one of the most feature rich swopping websites. It offers the possibility to upload pictures of your items by sms for example.
To promote this website, we made an animation which shows you how to reach the top while swopping items online. You have the possibility to upload your own picture and use it in the animation. When you are happy with your picture in the animation, you can send it to your friends to watch, as a viral marketing tool.
The goal of the marketing campaign is to get more items on the swopping website. For the person who uploads most items, there will be the reward of an IPod Touch!
Visit the campaign website at www.swopjetop.nl and upload your picture now! Let me know what you think after you’re done.
A very funny comparison of the Macbook Air and the new ultra portable Lenovo X300. The point they make in the movie is a good one. I think the Macbook Air is almost useless, espescially considering the price. But still, this doesn’t make the Lenovo good looking. My god, it is ugly.
I think it is a good idea to buy a cheaper laptop, maybe a Macbook if looks are really important, or a Dell M1330 like myself. You can then use the money you save to go to the gym for a workout, so that extra pound (or maybe two) won’t bother you.
Santa Rosa laptops have advanced power consumption limiting features, like trottling and power state transitions. The software that is supplied with your laptop, like that of my Dell is actually pretty good, but gives only limited insight in what your computer is actually doing.
To adjust the power consumption of my laptop according to the usage, I tried out several power management tools. My Dell XPS M1330 has a fairly good battery time of around 3 hours when I am developing with Flex, which can be quitte processor intensive. When browsing the web or doing office tasks, the battery time can be better. To optimize power consumption according to usage, I use a third party power management tool. I have tested several of these tools, since they don’t all tend to work as expected on my Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo laptop
Notebook hardware control, personal edition. I believe that I tested the Dell version, which doesn’t seem to work. The GUI is quite nice, with a 3d like graph of cpu usage. The possible features look promising, however most features are disabled for my laptop and the CPU speed is not displayed correctly, which makes this program useless for me.
Speedswitch XP. This program has a lot of settings to change, but most settings are so advanced that changing them can have bad results unless you really know what you are doing. The documentation isn’t that good either. TheCPU speed doesn’t seem to be displayed correctly either.
The clear winner of these three programs is without doubt Rightmark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) personal version. This program has all the features you need: avanced setting of power profiles, per profile settings of power states and throttling, temperature trottling and a very nice monitoring display. This program is the only one in the test that seems to display the CPU speed correctly.
If you want to take over control of the power consumption of your notebook, then RMClock is the right program for you.
Tweener One of my favorite toolkits. Tweener makes it much simpler to create advanced animations. It has a Javascript version as well, which is a lightweight alternative to the Scriptaculous effects.
I have just upgraded Wordpress to the current version 2.5 and everything seems to work out of the box! The two step upgrade was truly a matter of five minutes. Delete two directories, upload new files, login to the admin panel which starts the DB upgrade and you’re done. I didn’t bother backing up the DB which I don’t regret.
I think the new interface looks very clear, uncluttered and fresh.
The only negative point is that the ”Visit Site” button is above the ”write” tab in Opera.
But who uses Opera anyway?
The new media adding buttons look cool in the new RTE, and WOW open a modal woindow to insert your media files.
Expect more posts with this new version of Wordpress, because it seeems to make life even easier!
When you spend a lot of time on the road with your notebook, you wish for longer battery times of your notebook now and then. Here are several tips for lowering the power consumption of your notebook. My Dell XPS M1330 with a standard battery has a battery lifetime of 3 hours, but this is greatly dependent of the type of work that I do.
Use a low brightness setting for your display. Lower brightness means lower power consumption. If possible buy a notebook with a led display, like my Dell XPS M1330.
Use a power control utility like NHC, Speedswitch or Rightmark CPU Clock Utility. These programs allow you to lower the processor speed when you don’t need it. I will post a review of these programs in a post nest week.
Don’t use processor intensive applications.
Close applications you don’t use (including browser tabs), Flash apps can be processor intensive)
Buy extra memory for your machine. Extra memory will lower the number of read and writes to your hard disk.
Defragment your harddisk regularly.
Turn of system devices which aren’t in use like Bluetooth or Wifi
Check out this personal list to view the current standing in rich web applications. It is clear that 3d websites are the new trend in 2008. No wonder since Papervision offers such a great api for developing these apps. Secondly it appears that most of these websites are either portfolio websites or big blue campaign websites. In this list the Dutch retailer Suitsupply is the only website outside the above categories.
This list contains a small selection of the websites that I know of. Please feel welcome to submit other websites that really impress you.
Oasim.com
The personal portfolio website of this dude looks great. http://www.oasim.com
I have my Dell M1330 notebook for about two months now and I really love it. It is light, compact, feature rich, fast and it started to tick like a clock. Quite irritating to be honest, especially in quite surroundings.
It appeard that the reason of this clicking was the harddisk accoustic management (sick). The accoustic management ajusts the settings of the harddisk every second, causing a clicking sound. So shutting down the harddisk accoustic management makes the disk quieter.
To adjust the power management settings of the Dell M1330 it is best to use Notebook Hardware Control. However I did use Speedswitch as well, but that proved quite difficult so get the optimal settings. The thing that makes it more difficul to get the optimal settings is the fact that different programs display different CPU frequencies, so it is hard to know at which speed your notebook’s CPU is running.
The services browser of AMFPHP 1.9 is really impressive and the AWI kickstart example works almost out of the box. In the MXML file, the service that has to be connected to (AWI.awiClient) is in lowercase, which causes an
Flexbuilder error. It took me some time to get thing started because of that.
Here you can find the example that I just made. It still looks a bit like the services broser of AMFPHP, but just imagine the things you can achieve with a RIA Flex interface. So I set myself a challenge for the next few weeks: Make a nice Flex wordpress interface to get this website started. I will update this blog with the progress I made.
