Dell M1330 clicking sound

Dell m1330

I have my Dell M1330 notebook for about two months now and I really love it. It is light, compact, feature rich, fast and it started to tick like a clock. Quite irritating to be honest, especially in quite surroundings.

It appeard that the reason of this clicking was the harddisk accoustic management (sick). The accoustic management ajusts the settings of the harddisk every second, causing a clicking sound. So shutting down the harddisk accoustic management makes the disk quieter.

To adjust the power management settings of the Dell M1330 it is best to use Notebook Hardware Control. However I did use Speedswitch as well, but that proved quite difficult so get the optimal settings. The thing that makes it more difficul to get the optimal settings is the fact that different programs display different CPU frequencies, so it is hard to know at which speed your notebook’s CPU is running.
